Mike
-How will your e-Portfolio demonstrate your interdisciplinarity?
My E portfolio will demonstrate my interdisciplinarity because I will have a bunch of different papers on different subjects. With different papers on my different areas it demonstrates that I am knowledgeable more then one area. If you read my papers in my E portfolio you will also get to no me and my personality
-What is the audience / purpose you're thinking of using?
As of right now the audience of my E portfolio is primarily I. I am putting it together for an audience of professionals when it becomes time to seek jobs. I am very conscious about what I put in my E portfolio and make sure that I am as professional as possible. The E portfolio is a good way to let people no that I am smart and respectable. I believe that when someone reads my papers and responses in my E portfolio they are going to get to no my personality and that will separate me from others competing for the same job.
-How would you envision your e-Portfolio looking like? What would you like to stand out?
My E portfolio is going to look professional and organized. I already said it, but its going to give people an opportunity to see how I work and a feel for my personality. It is going to be filled with different papers and response papers of all my disciplines. I am going to show that I am knowledgeable and ready for any job at hand.
-What things are you thinking could be used as evidence?
All the papers that I have written is good evidence to put into my E portfolio. Presentation that I have put together for different classes will be a part of it as well. You can put anything in your E portfolio that will be a good representation of you. With everything that I have in my E portfolio I am going to have a great collection of who I am.

How will your e-Portfolio demonstrate your interdisciplinarity?
My e-portfolio will demonstrate my interdisciplinarity because there are reaction papers and other pieces of evidence from many different areas. I have things ranging from Ethenobotany to science education preparation, then the cool thing about it is that then I link all of those things together into my personal interdisciplinarity. Through the works that I have compiled in my e-portfolio I show how I plan to use the information that I have gained to work towards a common goal.
What is the audience / purpose you're thinking of using?
The primary audience that my e-portfolio has is me. I am the one who made it, I am the only one who adds to it, and for the most part I am the only one who has ever read it. However, I am trying to make it as professional and appealing as possible so that I could use it as a tool for future job searches. The things that I have placed in there would in my opinion be great things to show a future employer to show them the quality of my work and research. That is why it is important to take the e-portfolio seriously, one day you may be showing it off to others besides your teachers.
How would you envision your e-Portfolio looking like? What would you like to stand out?
To be perfectly honest I don’t have a vision of what it would look like. In my head my e-portfolio looks just the way it does on my screen, lots of columns and rows filled with word documents and power point presentations. What stands out for me is the quality of my work. Each paper or artifact that I have placed there is something that I feel was a well developed and worth reading. That being said, what I would like to stand out is that everything in the e-portfolio is of high quality.
What things are you thinking could be used as evidence?
The things that I believe could be used as evidence are things that you have put high quality work into. Anything from research papers that you have done to power point presentations that you have worked on to a video that you have made could be used as meaningful evidence, just as long as you have taken pride in creating it. The possibilities are endless; anything that you believe could represent your interdisciplinarity while showing that you are a serious student would be a good piece of evidence. Always keep in mind that someday, someone besides yourself will be looking at the e-portfolio to see what you have chosen to represent yourself.

How will your e-Portfolio demonstrate your interdisciplinarity? E-portfolio will demonstrate and summarize all the different types of knowledge I have attained from my different disciplines. Also, e-portfolio will not only summarize my coursework but also it is a way to get to know me.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the audience / purpose you're thinking of using? Since I want to use my e-portfolio for my grad school application I want my e-portfolio to include pages as follow: about me, specific info about my disciplines, additional information about my voluntarily work outside school, as well as info about my academic and athletic accomplishments. The e-portfolio can help me to stand out as an applicant, and because of that I will have a greater chance to get accepted to the program.
How would you envision your e-Portfolio looking like? What would you like to stand out? I want my e-portfolio to be well organized, easy to use, and look professional, since I want to use it my medical school application. What I would like to stand out in my e-portfolio is my dedication to health sciences and the course work that can be useful in my medical school application such as anatomy, biology, and chemistry.
What things are you thinking could be used as evidence? I will probably use papers of high quality that I have written and course work that I am most proud of. Research papers and projects that I have done could also be something that I could use as evidence in my e-portfolio. Though I think the most important for me is to have evidences that can show my excellence and passion for sciences, since that will be important for my medical school application.
Mike, I think you are absolutely right when you said that “when someone reads my papers and responses in my E portfolio they are going to get to know my personality and that will separate me from others competing for the same job.” That is why I also want to make sure that my e-portfolio is professional and well organized, since the e-portfolio reflects me not just as a student but also as a person.
ReplyDeleteSo my question for you, Mike, is - what have you done so far to personalize your e-portfolio?
Also, what types of evidence have you chosen to use in your e-portfolio? Can you give me a specific example?
John, I like really like this sentence of yours - “Through the works that I have compiled in my e-portfolio I show how I plan to use the information that I have gained to work towards a common goal.” It really emphasizes the usage of e-portfolio as a summarizer of our major. The e-portfolio is a tool where we can show ourselves and others how we will use the information we gained from our IDS major towards a common goal. My goal is to attend medical school. Hopefully, later in life I can go back and look at my e-portfolio to see what I have accomplished with my IDS degree.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your “goal” with your IDS degree? Do you think it will be useful at the job market?
Also, do you think you will use e-portfolio after this class for job applications and so?
hey jenny, basically when you go about your UCF career you will have to write papers and do other assignments. When you do these assignment, make it professional, but also when a person reads it they should be able to know who you are or how you think after. Basically get a little piece of your personality. On the whole using it after i graduate, i honestly don't think so, and its just because my specific case. I am going to chiropractic college. So im not going strait for a job after school. Maby after i graduate, it will be a different story. What about you ? do you think you will be using it after to find jobs? what kind of jobs do you want ?
ReplyDeleteOh ok. I actually think I will only use it when I apply for grad school and not for jobs. I want to go medical school after college. Hopefully, I will one day be an orthopedist. That is so cool that you are going to chiropractic school...I been to an chiropractor 2 times, unfortunately I had bad experiences both times. However, it seems to be a very interesting field to work in.
ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat Michael, I am going to grad school right after college so I doubt I will use this for jobs. I do think it could be useful for admissions though, and that is what I will gear mine towards. I think that we need to focus on making these very professional but incorporate a personal touch, which is easier said than done.
ReplyDelete- My e-portfolio will demonstrate my IDS by showing what classes I have taking and what experiences I have had in my different focuses. It will show how I felt and what I learned through all these experiences as well.
ReplyDelete-I want it to look professional yet eye catching. I want it to be a different and refreshing, and show that I am passionate about my interests. I want to show that I am a motivated individual.
-My evidence will be my classes, the grades I have made, and how I am involved with various clubs around campus.
-My audience will be possible internships as well as admissions councils for grad schools. So my portfolio needs to set me apart from the masses.
jenny, summer.
ReplyDeleteGood call, using it in your application to grad school can help very much. With Mcat, Gpa and letters of rec, i believe that the E portfolio will sit nicely in the application process.. summer, what kind of grad school are you thinking of attending ?
My e-Portfolio will demonstrate my interdisciplinarity by showcasing my skills and accomplishments in a diverse area of subjects. I have chosen to take criminal justice and health as my areas of interest with a business minor, so I will expect my e-Portfolio to demonstrate my interdisciplinarity by presenting my achievements in these areas.
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of my e-Portfolio would be to apply to graduate school, and the audience I will use will be a graduate school admissions office. If I apply to graduate school it will probably be a business school, so my minor (business) will stand out more. My e-portfolio will demonstrate my business knowledge to the graduate admissions office, while also showing that I have excelled in other areas, such as health and criminal justice.
I envision that my e-Portfolio will display my knowledge and capabilities of interdisciplinary thinking in an organized and easy to access format. It will list my areas of interest and minor, and explain the work I have done in these areas. My accomplishments will stand out most in my e-Portfolio, and as evidence I could list things such as Deans List, Bright Futures, etc.
John, Mike.
ReplyDeleteI read that both of your audiences for your e-Portfolio are yourselves. I wrote that my audience would be graduate schools since I intend on applying to a graduate school after UCF but I think that for now my audience is also myself. For the next few semesters I will have to construct my e-Portfolio, so I would have to agree with both of you that for now my audience with be myself, and then I can focus on another audience in the future.
I am going to pursue the same track as both of you, Mike and Summer. I am going to apply to graduate school after I graduate from UCF and I think I will mostly use my e-Portfolio to apply to graduate school. I don''t think I will be using my e-Portfolio after I graduate when I apply for a job.
ReplyDeleteandy,
ReplyDeleteAs a student you are an audience for your E portfolio, but i think you should show your friends, or your parents. Criticism both good and bad can help you mold your E portfolio for grad schools.
Jenny,
ReplyDeletemy goal for my IDS degree is to have it help me obtain a job after college. I know that sounds boring but thats all I can think of. I don't plan on going to grad school or at least not now. I think that the e-portfolio will be a useful tool for when applying for a future job. If nothing else I can just use it for an accumulation of ideas that I can hold on to for future use.
Beyond using your IDS degree and e-portfolio for grad school what do you think you will use them for?
Andy,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mike I don't see my self using the e-portfolio in a job interview, but I will keep adding things to it in case someone wants to see some of the work that I have done. Remember, just because you don't think you will use it doesn't mean you wouldn't.
Mike, John.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input, I see now that I should just keep adding material to my e-Portfolio and keep it on hand just in case I would need to use it in the future.
Andy, exactly, stay proactive. Do everything that you can so you don't look back one day and think, should-a could-a didn't.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I am thinking of going and doing either environmental law or environmental public health... I just can't decide!
ReplyDeleteHow will your e-Portfolio demonstrate your interdisciplinarity? I feel like my e-Portfolio will summarize and show the variety of knowledge that I have attained through my different areas of study in the program. It allows for the audience to know that my hands are not just tied down to one particular subject.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the audience/purpose you're thinking of using? I would like my e-Portfolio to be for the purpose of opening many job oppotunities for me. Jobs will be able to see my experiece, and work I have done. Not only that but the variety of knowledge and skills I have attained.
How would you envision e-Portfolio looking like? What would you like to stand out?
I would envision my portfolio to be simple and straight to the point. Also I would envision it to be organized so that whoever come upon it they will be able to understand it. What I would like to stand out will be the variety of knowledge I have.
What things are you thinking could be used as evidence?
I think what can be used as evidence would be fom simple work, to projects. Research paper would be great evidence, and projects that include like a powerpoint presentation.
Mike I really agree with you when anyone sees the work you have done in your e-Portfolio, they get to see part of who you are. In my opinion when you write it shows the type of person you are and qualities you contain.
